Agency Update

With the last fiscal year behind us, we are looking ahead to 2023-2024 anticipating another year of explosive growth. This past year was a record-breaking one for Rebound, with an all-time high of 1,759 clients served through mental health, youth justice, tutoring, family, and recreational programming. This represents a full 25% increase in clients served year-over-year, indicating not only a desire for these much-needed services, but an increased ability to provide support. We are so excited to see what the next year will bring, and to usher in new energy into our space.

Changes at the Helm

The team at Rebound welcomed new Executive Director Nicole Wood on Monday, April 17th as she takes over for outgoing Executive Director, Carol Beauchamp.

Nicole brings a new, fresh perspective to the agency, having worked in the healthcare field since 2003. Nicole comes to Rebound directly from Campbellford Memorial Hospital, where she held the position of Vice President and Chief Nursing Officer.

“Committed to improving the lives of children, youth and families in our community, Nicole will build on the legacy of our outgoing Executive Director, Carol Beauchamp”, says Charlotte Monardo, President of Rebound’s Board of Directors. “I am confident she will continue to lead Rebound Child & Youth Services toward our vision of all children and youth having the opportunity to reach their fullest potential”.

“Rebound has developed a strong reputation in the Northumberland Community, thanks to strong leadership, and a generous and supportive community, and it is an honour to be entrusted to move that work forward with a terrific team, and a network of collaborative partnerships”, Nicole says.

“I feel a strong personal alignment with Rebound’s positive organizational culture, and its values of Respect, Resilience, Responsibility and Ripple Effect, and I very much look forward to being Rebound’s next Executive Director. Carol Beauchamp has left a strong and lasting legacy at Rebound, and I want to take this opportunity to recognize all that she has done for Rebound, and for elevating the importance of child and youth issues in our community”.

Goodbye, Carol

After eight incredible years of growth, Rebound says a bittersweet goodbye to outgoing Executive Director, Carol Beauchamp.

Since 2014, Carol has stewarded the agency through a period of development and progress, fostering collaborative community partnerships across the county and setting the stage for an explosion of much-needed mental health and family support programming. Carol’s client-focused approach paved the way for new Rebound program offerings designed to address existing service gaps, evolving the agency into a one-stop shop for children, youth and family wellness.

Under Carol’s stewardship, Rebound’s reach has increased more than four-fold, with new and innovative partnership programming such as the Collaborative 14 and Under Intervention Program (CUIP), the Child & Youth Mental Health Walk-In in partnership with Northumberland Hills Hospital, and Triple P Positive Parenting Network (PPN). Carol’s vision for Rebound included an enhanced focus on clinical mental health services in an effort to address a lack of sought after therapeutic support for children and youth in the county. Most recently, she also was instrumental in giving life to the Family Wellness Hub of holistic services in response to trends indicating this need for support. Her charisma, passion and conviction have helped to make Rebound a household name across Northumberland County.

We will sincerely miss Carol’s leadership, vision, energy and wit. We wish her the very best.

Volunteer with Rebound and Make a Big Difference in the Life of a Child or Youth

Volunteer opportunities are aplenty at Rebound!

The Youth Justice Committee in on the hunt for community volunteers looking for a long-term commitment to work collaboratively with youth and families in order to support restorative approaches to youth in conflict with the law. Restorative Justice is a process that provides an opportunity to address the impacts of harm caused while holding the person accountable in a way that is meaningful for the victim, the community and the offender. Instead of defining crime as breaking the law, Restorative Justice defines crime as harm to people. Instead of responding to this breach with punishment, Restorative Justice says the response should be making things right.

Does this sound like a cause that is meaningful to you? If you’re interested in learning more, please call Brandy at (905) 372-0007 ext 222 or by emailing her at brandy@rcys.ca. Training sessions are approaching fast, so don’t delay!

READbound Tutoring Program

Rebound is always looking for amazing volunteers to support children and youth through our READbound tutoring program, but never has the need been so strong as right now. We are now seeing the significant impact that COVID-19 has had on young people’s academic progress in early literacy and numeracy in particular. Our waitlist is full of young people hoping to find someone who can provide much-needed one-on-one support that school classrooms are increasingly unable to offer. If you have a way with youth and are looking for meaningful ways to give back, consider becoming a volunteer tutor with Rebound. Call Stacey to find out how: (905) 372-0007 ext 232, or email her at stoste@rcys.ca.

Fundraising Update

Easter Bake Sale Sweetens Up The Rebound Office

After a COVID hiatus, Rebound’s Easter bake sale came back with a vengeance this year, raising close to $900 for Rebound and the Northumberland United Way. After two days, our table of decadent treats was nearly empty thanks to the support of community partners, clients and friends. We would like to take this opportunity to thank bakeries throughout Northumberland County for supporting this year’s sale, including Frosted Flour, Millstone Bread, Dooher’s Bakery, Black Cat, Centre and Main Chocolate Company, and the Dutch Oven.

Valentine Cookie Fundraiser Raises Record Amount

The Bake Sale wasn’t the only recent fundraiser meant to sweeten everyone’s day. We were overjoyed to partner again with Roda’s Kitchen to offer delicious boxes of hand-made cookies in our Valentine’s fundraiser.  Thanks to the delicious reputation of her cookies – and the generous dollar-to-dollar matching of $3,000 from the Pickering Family – our bake sale raised over $12,000 for Rebound! Thank you, Northumberland County, for making this year’s Valentine’s fundraiser our best yet.

Donor Spotlight – The Cobourg Home Depot

We could not be more honoured to be the newest benefactor of Cobourg Home Depot’s Orange Door Project Campaign, a fundraising initiative designed to support affordable housing, youth initiatives and help to build strong communities for Canadians in need. This past winter, Rebound was honoured to receive a generous donation from The Cobourg Home Depot for $6,399, which will directly support programming dedicated to children, youth, and family wellness across Northumberland County. These monies were raised through a targeted multi-week campaign at the Cobourg store, which included customer donations, a bake sale, an art auction and even a pie in the face contest! Thank you to all who contributed throughout the winter campaign.

We’re so grateful to be acknowledged by the Home Depot community in this way and look forward to the Spring Orange Door campaign starting soon! Visit the Home Depot in Cobourg to find out how you can support the next campaign.
