PURPOSE OF POSITION
The CHILD & YOUTH COUNSELLOR will support the Family Check-Up, Every Day Parenting & Child Abuse Prevention Programs, and will work alongside other Rebound staff such as members of the Counselling & CUIP teams to support local families. The Child & Youth Counsellor is responsible for assessments such as the Family Check Up program and BCFPI, delivering counselling and therapy services, utilizing a brief solution focused narrative model as well as supporting group skills building programs, based on a CBT model. This position is a 12-month contract – 22.5 hours per week. The contract may be renewed upon extension of funding.
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Program and Services Coordination
Intakes and assessment of needs, including Family Check Up and BCFPI
Provide brief solution focused narrative therapy model and single session counselling services
Work with internal and external partners to offer streamlined, efficient, mental health services to children, youth and their families
Work collaboratively with an inter-disciplinary team to contribute to a continuum of care for Rebound clients and their family
Implement evaluation tools for effective monitoring of outcomes
Maintain client files
Refer clients to appropriate services and programs, both internally and externally
Assist with the coordination and facilitation of any group sessions as required
Attend meetings with schools, families and other social service providers as required
Other duties as assigned by the Executive Director or designate
WORKING CONDITIONS
All staff members are required to be FULLY VACCINATED and agree to weekly rapid testing when working in the office
Flexibility in work hours, including ability to work weekends/evenings for purposes of program delivery and attendance at activities and events
Home office or private space required to maintain the privacy and confidentiality of our clients if remote work is necessary
Driving/travelling to program locations and other events
Requires extensive keyboarding on different devices
Requires working in shared open-concept office space, in a busy environment with frequent distractions
May require work in client home settings
QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE, AND REQUIREMENTS
Post-secondary education, University/College – Master’s Degree in Social Work or equivalent Clinical Graduate Degree/Diploma (will consider BSW, RSW designation)
Registered with a recognized organization that governs professional designation
Demonstrated clinical expertise with community based mental health services for children and youth
Knowledge of relevant legislation pertaining to Child and Youth Services
Experience and proven ability to work and connect with children, youth, and their families
Experience in program implementation, and facilitation
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Ability to work with complex multi-systemic issues
Ability to work independently with high level of accountability, and as part of a team
Valid driver’s license and a reliable vehicle with minimum $2,000,000 insurance liability
Satisfactory Criminal Record Check including Vulnerable Sector search
