About Carol…

As one of Rebound’s long standing volunteers, Carol has demonstrated intense commitment to Rebound and to her role as a valued volunteer, both as a tutor and a member of Rebound’s Youth Justice Committee.

About volunteering, Carol says, “My Volunteering experience has been enriching. I definitely feel that my attitudes, thoughts and ideas are valued and appreciated by the other participants. And I learn from them, too. I really enjoy the challenge of the brain work-out involved in tutoring and Youth Justice Committee.”

Carol, the theme for this year’s National Volunteer Week is ‘Volunteering is Empathy in Action’. What does that statement mean to you?

The slogan “Empathy in Action” is ideal. It means that volunteers leave judging, criticism and superiority at the door and take a small step into someone else's world.

What advice would you give someone who is thinking about volunteering?

Volunteering is often used with words like involve and commit. The challenge for the volunteer is to accept that teamwork, listening, and sharing are essentials – you are an equal partner and your input is important. You will need to channel your inner Beatles – All You Need is - Time, Energy and an Open Mind!
