For World Storytelling Day we had the pleasure of hearing an excerpt from AOD:DOA, told by the co-author herself, Phoebe Arthurs. This book was written by a father/daughter duo. Paul was the leading author, creating the main characters and plot line. Phoebe assisted with all the amazing creative input; providing ideas about character growth and the development of the story lines. Phoebe told us that often times they would share ideas about the book/discuss during car rides, whenever they were chatting at home and out doing errands - of something gave them inspiration for the book they would share it with each other.

Here's what AOD:DOA is about: When you die, your guardian angel appears next to your soul and escorts you to Heaven. Usually. If an Angel of Death is also required, they show up and do the job. Usually. Rhodes was a twenty-something part-time librarian. Jericho was a three-thousand-something full-time avenging angel. Classic boy meets girl. But now Heaven is recruiting a new Grim Reaper in the battle of Good versus Evil. Rhodes has to learn the ropes before the Legions of Hell attack. But his trainer is serving a penance for conduct unbecoming an angel. His would-be recruiter unwittingly drops a house on him. And a jealous angel is gunning for him in a lethal love triangle. When you die you go to Heaven, instead of becoming a Grim Reaper, escorting souls to Heaven, falling in love, and battling demons. Usually.

And great news! Their book can be purchased! It can be purchased from the following websites: Epub on iBookstore, Kobo, Lulu, Barnes, Noble (and most likely Indigo). Paul and Phoebe Arthurs currently have possession of the hard copies.

Additionally, zoom in on Phoebe's short story that she wrote just for us! It is extremely cute and funny!

Northumberland News

By Karen Longwell

COBOURG -- Youth help youth in a new calendar fundraiser for Rebound Child and Youth Services just released this month.

The calendar was created using photos and artwork from Northumberland youth as a way to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Rebound, said Rachel Edwards, program co-ordinator and facilitator for the organization. Proceeds from the calendar will go towards Rebound’s program development fund, she said.

Rebound put out a call to Northumberland schools and community groups for youth to submit artwork for the calendar. The final pieces were selected in a voting day where the names of the artists were not known to the voters, she said.

Sydney Stewart, 16, a Grade 11 student at Cobourg Collegiate Institute, created two paintings for the calendar featuring Cobourg landmarks in the harbour -- the lighthouse and the Victoria Park beach gazebo.

“I thought the lighthouse would be perfect because it is local,” she said.

A photograph of fireworks on July 1 in Cobourg came after Andrew Atanasoff, 15, a CCI Grade 10 student, took a photography course from local teacher, Cindy Taylor. Andrew said he chose photos taken around the area.

At only 12 years old, Grafton St. Mary Catholic Elementary School Grade 7 student McKayla Tackaberry has already developed a talent for painting. Her painting of her grandfather’s tractor is featured in the calendar.

Jocelyn Connor, 16, a home school student from Port Hope, said she loves to do photography in her free time nearly everyday. Three of her photos were chosen for the calendar including one taken while flying in her grandfather’s ultralight plane. Her favourite photo is one of her sisters on swings taken from a lower perspective.

Rebound is a not-for-profit, incorporated, charitable organization, which provides programs and services to children, youth and families in Northumberland. Services include court diversion programs, homework clubs, parenting programs and self-esteem programs.

Calendars are $20 and can be ordered by contacting Rachel Edwards at 905-372-0007 ext. 223 or .

"I want people who struggle with eating disorders to know it is possible to move from being 'in recovery' to being 'fully recovered'" – Jenni Schaefer

Eating disorders are characterized by disturbances in eating behavior. This can mean eating too much, not eating enough, or eating in an extremely unhealthy manner (such as binging or stuffing yourself over and over and purging).

Living life with anorexia or bulimia can be a devastating experience, and without treatment, anorexia can be life-threatening. But the good news is eating disorders can be overcome.

Learn how recovery can be possible for you too! Check out this list of resources, interviews and personal story submissions to learn new information about eating disorders and get inspired to set out on your own recovery journey!
